car delivery charge

Hi - new to the forum.
Sadly, my old Dad passed away last month and whilst sorting out his affairs I came accross the details of his new car (a little hatchback) he bought PX in November last year. It was in his local showroom (so not specially ordered) and it was delivered for him by the dealer. The distance from the showroom to his house is just under two miles. For this service he was charged the best part of £600+VAT.
Never bought a NEW car myself so I'm in the dark. Is this normal? - BTW this doesn't include plates, registration fee etc. as these were billed as extra.
This seems an awful lot - or maybe I'm just out of touch. Anyone know if this is par for the course.
Thanks

Purchasing it through the local dealer does not mean the car was sourced or in stock at his local dealer. Maybe the particluar model he wanted was in stock at another one of their garages the opposite side of the country and he agreed to purchase it and for it to transported to his local dealer?0

The £600 would have been the charge for transporting the car to the garage in the first place from the factory/importer's depot. This is about right if it was driven some way, but rather a lot if it was brought on a transporterI used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

The contract was between your dad and the garage.
End of storyHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Make enquiries through a friend on how much the garage normally charge for delivery. These are usually laid down by the car manufacturer or importer."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

All manufacturers charge for delivery on new cars
On the final invoice it can be presented in different ways
For example on the Skoda website the car price plus vat is about £ 700 less than the on the road price - most of the difference is the delivery charge
Iolanthe & Vax sum it up well
Sorry for your loss but move on - there's nothing out of the ordinary here0 -

Completely pointless. He wasn't the customer. Only the customer can complain and they're not likely to be interested now.0 -

This is of course true, but it might be of some comfort to the OP to know that his dad was not scammed and that this was a normal delivery charge applicable to all new cars.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
