Reclaiming Shop Direct Charges

Hello there,

I am currently in the process of trying to claim back my charges from Shop Direct (Littlewoods and Very) however they have written back to me and asked for evidence which backs up my claim that the the charges are disproportionate. I have stated how they send letters in with statements so no extra postage occurs, but how on earth am I to provide evidence?

Thank you in advance

You are only highlighting the postage method. Not the admin costs as well as the costs of the people they employ specifically to deal with bad accounts.

What makes you think that the costs are disproportionate?

Do you really think is appropriate to charge £12.00 to add an account number and owing number to a template letter taking a matter of minutes (3 at the most)?! Come on get real

Yes I do. I have had experience in that area and without the bad accounts, you could lose a quarter of the staff. Someone has to pay for them. If that isnt the bad accounts then who should it be?

The OFT felt it was reasonable as well.

So, just because you don't like the answer, you call me unreasonable. Perhaps you are the one being unreasonable.

I don't appreciate your reply merely for the fact you cannot justify it

  • Some people are just akward, good luck and let me know how you get on, I have the same option.
I would start by saying things like, as you can see I always pay X days after the payment date, therfore it was an oversight and chasing of the payment was not required, you paid before the letters were sent, you did not always get these alleged letters? Maybe you ask them to justify the costs? If they refuse appeal, they may just pay you something rather than go to the Obudsman
  • Awkward even oops :-(

Thank you for the reply, only just seen this. At the moment I am awaiting their justification of the charges as they have been unable to provide this up to now. I shall keep you informed. :j

They are not required to justify their costs to you. Some companies may give some information but most will not as they consider it commercially sensitive.

You still havent given any reason why you think their fees as disproportionate. I suggest you look up the general principle is that he who asserts a wrong has been committed must prove it. What makes you more knowledgeable on charges justification than those official bodies that have looked into it?
