If you changed (as recommended) to Whole Bill Monthly Direct Debit, you'd only be charged in advance for one month's line rental. I appreciate that'd require you to sort out your finances so as to avoid being overdrawn but, as BT give 10 days' notice of a DD call, I would have though that would be manageable.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That's not the problem, it's just sometimes payment is made some days after the 10 days they allow from the bill.

I'm thinking of paying the £120 a year and then just the call charges would need to be paid since I have the Anytime package, these are minimal, less than £5 usually and only for 0844 or 0871 numbers with the occasional mobile call.

The late payment charges total around £75 since 2007 so not a huge amount but still a credit would be good. I don't know why they didn't send a statement going back further than Feb 2007 since i've been with them for around 10 years.
