Letting agent cannot get hold of landlord

We contacted our letting agent 3 weeks ago to see if we were able to get a pet as in our agreement it states that we need prior permission from the landlord. Along with this we asked other general questions about the property. In these 3 weeks the letting agent has not been able to get hold of the landlord. Obviously we think that this is unacceptable and was wondering if anyone could help us out with weather we have any rights after a certain amount of time if we still are unable to get hold of the landlord. lucklily most of it has been done through email with the letting agent. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

have you got the landlord's address? the landlord is legally required to provide you with his address and it should be on the lease. if you haven't got it ask the agent to provide it, and write to the landlord yourself.0 -
You have no right to assume it's a yes to getting a pet if you can't contact him within a certain time if that is what you're implying."I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
Riq is right (but equally no right to assume a "no" also..).
Think if you've written, (say twice a week apart), to Landlord (maybe c/o agent if you have no other address) then I think any fair-minded judge would conclude you'd taken reasonable steps.. but you never know what judges will decide..0 -

This isn't qite right. The landlord has to provide an address where notices may be served. this does not have to be the landlord's home address; it could be the Agent's address.0 -
Err..no, if you write to agent then he has to give LL name & address (the real ones, not c/o agent) within 21 days - (Landlord and Tenant act 1985 Section 1..).

Tenant can involve Trading Standards to assist..
Council can prosecute if there is no response... a lovely fine a possibility..0
