Creation Finance 3D Insurance

Hi

I have had an Adams store card since 1998 and I have been paying extortionate amounts of insurance on the account over the years due to the varying balance (which is near impossible to get down due to the inflated interst charges - last month the insurance alone was £40.00).

When I took the card out in store I was not told that insurance was optional but until recently did not know that the company had been breaking the rules. I duly wrote to Creation and have just received a letter back basically telling me that 3D insurance was not sold as compulsory and it was left to the customer to decide if this was suitable for them (I wasn't given this option!) and also that I was sent the documentation and I would have had a 14 day cooling off period (they attached a blurred copy of the paperwork which I don't remember ever receiving).

The letter went on to tell me that basically if I'd had 0 balance on the card I wouldn't have had to pay the insurance and in light of the above they did not feel I warrented a refund - although interestingly they have taken the insurance off this months statement.

Has anyone else had dealings with this company over 3D insurance and is it worth me taking it to the Ombudsman?

Any advice would be gratefully received :)

Sorry to tag onto your post, but I am in a similar boat to you. I had a Bay Trading store card when I was at Uni in 1999. I think I used it once, but have not since then.
Had forgotten all about the card, but have just started getting automated calls from Creation Finance.

Spoke to someone today who says that I owe £29.66
    This is for 3D insurance!

I asked him when the card was last used and he said 1999, but that insurance has been accruing since then - despite my balance being £0.

I don't remember taking insurance - honestly can't remember that far back, but I never normally take insurance.
Even so, surely I shouldn't have to pay insurance on a zero balance for a card that has not been used in over 10years.

    Any advice gratefully received.
  • This seems to be an old thread with no answer....but I'm going to try anyway. Partner has just had a letter from Creation Financial Services asking if he's ok to continue with his policy with the new changes. He hasn't been paying anything to anyone so far so no idea where it's come from. Any information at all anyone?
