making yourself intentionally unemployed may result in benefit sanctions and you would end up with no job and no benefits. you really need to go to citizens advice and look at your options before you do anything.

Perhaps you could apply for a crisis loan to tide you over? are there any charity shops that sell furniture near you? you have the internet, have you looked on gumtree or freecycle for furniture?

Are you recieving all the benefits you are entitled to; child tax credit, working tax credit, child benefit, income support (depending on the age of your 2 kids). When you do get a place could you get council tax benefit. Does the kids dad pay anything in child maintenance? Can you get a crisis loan to help, I dont know if these are allowed for paying rent and getting up and running. CAB or the job centre would be able to confirm that.

Silly question but can any family or friends help you out to get you on your feet and then you pay them back gradually?

Hope you will be okay OP.

Will you not be splitting the furniture from the house you currently live in? Surely, your Ex does not want your kids to be without?

If not, then are there any charities in the area who would be able to assist with furniture to see you through temporarily?, or could family "lend" you some essentials (we have had to do this when starting out). Could you rent a property "furnished"? (again we have done this)?. Would your employer provide a loan through your salary?

I would think in the current climate that giving up your career would be the last thing on you mind as surely it would be very difficult to get back into work later on?

I hope you can get things sorted quickly as it must be very unsettling for you and your little ones.

As someone suggested try freecycle people give away furniture free on there its got to be worth a look. You could probably furnish a whole house for nothing.

How old are the children, depending on their ages you could go on income support.

If you are your own employer, presumably you are suggesting you stop your own business to go on job seekers.

From my recent experience, although going "on the dole" is easy, I found keeping on it hard when not actively job seeking. I am sure every office is different but "starting work again when I get moved in" will only last a week or two at most, then you will have to go to classes/seminars etc....

Also it takes several weeks for any payments to come through so unless (without starting a debate) you ARE job seeking, I don't think you should apply for JOB SEEKER'S allowance, regardless of the positive side effects such as other benefits and emergency help.
