i don't think you will be able to cancel the payments, as they have already left your Santander account, and a bacs recall can take as long as the payment would to arrive. The best option as someone said earlier is to ask for a overdraft to tide you over during the transfer.0 -

I don't understand why the payment didn't go down the Faster Payments route as we make transfers at least a few times a week using this method but this time on the statement it just says:
BILL PAYMENT TO SEAN ******** REFERENCE BARCLAYS, MANDATE NO 0005
As opposed to:
BILL PAYMENT VIA FASTER PAYMENT TO SEAN ******** REFERENCE BARCLAYS , MANDATE NO 5
Regardless of what Santander's (lousy) limits are........
IF you make regular payments as stated you would immediately know BEFORE confirming the payment as to whether it would go via FP or BACS. Santander clearly display this and advise you so why you're suprised I don't know ?
Seems to me that this is just another unjustified rant/bash at Santander and a highly dubious post !0 -
You can feed a family for a few days on £10, maybe not with much varitiy but can be done. Own Band 'Value' Products, pasta and cheap sauces, super noodles (some are even priced at 9p!), rice and a simple veg curry, cheese on toast, toast for brekkie. It won't harm the kids eating value meals with no/little meat for a few days.
Have you no family or friends who can loan you a small amount for food?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

Honestly, what is the deal with posters such as yourself???
How is my thread in any way dubious?
Anyway, getting on the matter in hand. Good news, very good news indeed. Because I made the payment after midnight ie: today, but the early hours, the kind lady at the counter in the branch phoned up some call centre or other and the payment was reversed and the funds replaced into our account, and let us withdraw cash there and then at the counter.
To the poster saying I'm posting dubiously and bashing Satander, I would like you to point out where I have bashed them at all, because I do not believe that I have in any way bashed them. I have simply described an issue with the faster payments system.
And seeing as I am now posting that they sorted things out in the branch very very quickly and efficiently, I am actually giving them praise for fixing the matter in such a timely fashion.
To all other posters that have offered kind, genuine advice which is pretty much all of you, I thank you very much indeed, and have reflected this by clicking your "Thanks" buttons vigorously! But here I am again saying thank you to all of you that helped!
But please can you describe why someones post such as this would be considered dubious?? Looking at the posting times you can clearly see that I have been up all night worried sick about this.
Do you think people are that sad and have nothing better to do with there time than to sit on some forum slagging off bank x, y, or z??
The mind boggles! But the problem has been solved to a more than satisfactory level. Sweet!!!0 -
(sorry this was meant to be added to the bottom of the above post)

It's mainly my fault for not looking, being due to the fact that I have become accustomed to the transfers all going by FP.0 -
Ugh when did people on MSE become so judgemental.
Not everyone is 100% clued up on all the inner workings and limits of each bank (as I'm sure cashiers or call centre workers here can attest to!) and therefore issues like this are surely commonplace.
OP looks for advice on here and is swamped by pretentious know-it-alls slating him for making the mistake rather than helping him rectify it.
Seems to be all too common place on this board..0 -

I beg to differ, with most systems and as described above, it tells you whether the transfer is going by BACS or Faster Payments. Should the OP have said "I accidentally put through a transfer where I thought it would go by FPS, but didn't, went by BACS, can I get it transferred back?" there would be no judgements.
BUT, the OP decided to say this:This is more than unacceptable as we only have £10.66 in cash and two kids to feed so it's not going to cut it is it LOL?
andWe did not know that the scabby Abbey have a Faster Payments limit of £300, LOL what a joke!
And a whole lot of other stuff.
The fact the OP thinks its unacceptable is going to get opinion thrown at him, because the fact of the matter is, its not unacceptable. The limits are shown (and which the OP even found himself!), and the fact it tells you on screen what method the transaction is going by, just shows its not completely unacceptable as it's the OPs own fault.
I am glad he has resolved it, but I don't see any less need to the views of other members and I agree with them all. It was the OPs fault, he got opinions about it, he got suggestions, he got it resolved. Now I imagine in the future, he will check whether it's going by BACS or FPS, because of the replies of members!0 -

If you use Santander you would know that it is not that obvious that the payment is going to go by FP. It's just a small note at the bottom with the Faster Payments logo next to it.

I use Santander FP's daily ! It's blatently obvious when it's going via FP's and when it's not !
If it wasn't going via FP a single line comment states 4 days !0 -

The OP came to unfairly rant ("unacceptable, idiots") at Santander for a mistake of his own doing which is all too common place on this board.
If the OP had asked for advice he would have probably got far different responses !0 -
