Insane car insurance

Options
Hi Guys

Been a lont time since I owned a vehicle and I am utterly horrified by car insurane prices and am hoping some of you guys may be able to share any useful tips. Bearing in mind that money is very tight lately, I have looked for quotes for 1.0ltr cars, Fiesta's, Micra's VW Polo's etc valued around £1000. I am 39 years old, held a licence for 20 years, no accidents etc since 2000 and am still getting quoted like £600 - £1,100 for 12 months fully comp??????
I am also horrified to find that no cliams get lost if you havent insured a vehicle for a number of years, so for me, my last policy was approx 2003 with about 3 years no claims on it, now apparently all that is lost?

I just cant believe the cost of living nowadays, especially with regards to things such as car insurance :(

Hi, given that you have no NCD I think that you are very lucky to get a quote as low as £600.

I know of several experienced drivers with between 4 and 12 years NCD who are paying £350-£450, so without any no claims that would be £1100-£1500. !!!

Sorry I can't be more optimistic for you, but believe me ,with no NCD £600 is an absolute bargain , grab it with both hands.
  • What sites are you checking? Are you checking price comparison ones?

I was able to get insurance for £870, 12 months fully comp from admiral, on my group 12 Astra 1.9l turbo diesel 150bhp.

I have 3 accidents in the past 5 years, a 6 point CD30 charge and I've only just turned 21.

I got that from confused.com, and I found some other comparison websites gave a much higher price than confused, so shop around them all.

    Good luck!

As already mentioned, £600 is pretty cheap as you've got no driving history for the past 8 years.

Also, just because a car has a small engine doesn't mean that it's cheap to insure, it just means it's got a small engine.
