CSA (Customer service adviser) are the people behind the tills who just take cheques and cash in and do limited servicing.

PBA (personal banking adviser) are the people who open accounts/ do account transfer etc.

After some thought I guess maybe I can "upgrade" my account to a Reward Current Account which has been hugely advertised (and on the other hand is pretty useless to me) and afterwards "downgrade" to the Preferred Current Account right away. Do you think that would work?

I believe "downgrading" from Reward to Preferred means you lose the 5% interest and only get 1%. Not sure about moving from an A&L to Santander account though.
