Quote for French door & window

Hi everyone, please help??
I've used this site before when purchasing my property and got really great advice, and I'm afraid I'm back again asking for help....
The story is.... We want to install French doors in the kitchen, there's an opening where the existing door is and right next to the door there's a window. I want to install a set of 1400w French doors, so I suppose 700 will be from the existing door & the rest will be from where the window is, meaning the brick work at the bottom of the window will need to be taken down and as this is quite a large window, what hasn't been turned into a door, will need to be bricked up again. We ALSO have another window in the kitchen, which needs to be double glazed. BUT, the window goes down quite low, I'd say about 20cm below the kitchen worktop, so there's a bit of bricking up to do there as well to bring it up above the worktop and then a new window can be fitted.
Hope this all makes sense.. I've been quoted £1800 to do all of this. Is this a fair price? I've got a local company coming tomorrow to give me another quote. Also will I need to get building regs or any planning to do this?
Thanks,

We recently had upvc oak French doors fitted 1800 wide in place of kitchen window, with stonework below window removed using lintel above for doors. We had 3 quotes and paid £900.
Very happy with them...eventually after a visit back to tidy internal walls
Yes we had to have building regs as I believe it's classed as structural work0 -
Well interstingly, local company tonight came in at £1300 for all the work including building regs which they sort out!! I'm so happy I wasn't forced to accept a quote from Safestyle UK... Those people shouldnt be allowed anywhere near potential customers!! I do feel sorry for the sales rep who came round to my house yesterday though because it as obvious his "managers" where giving him a tough time for not being able to close the deal....
Anyway I will be going ahead with this evenings quote & should hopefully have beautiful patio doors in the next 4 weeks.....0
