HSBC sharebuying service

So, mainly to save face for not having researched before I asked your advice I am having a browse over HSBC's share dealing/buying service.
My situation is as follows - I do most of my active banking with HSBC and I hold no shares. I am (for the time being) just interested in purchasing shares in one particular company. Ill discuss later as I can see that point distracting from my question...I am not entirely comfortable with online banking. I'm also looking at this as a short term investment, but you will always incur selling charges i suppose so that is irrelevant?
Okay, so given the above what would be the best way for me to go about purchasing these shares? I dont want a massive amount, 1k ish. I suppose this should be included into my ISA allowance?

Having a quick browse over the above it seems more suited to someone who is regularly dealing in shares. Would I be able to phone HSBC and purchase the shares that way? Would it be cost effective or should I ring a stockbroker?
Sorry to have been lazy, I just know some of you will know this stuff off the top of your heads.
Cheers

You can use HSBC's InvestDirect online account to trade online, or via the telephone, although telephone trades are more costly.
You can also ISA-wrap your trades to guard against CGT.
