Sorry but can you clarify exactly what has happened in a time line order?

Have you received the goods back and have you refunded? You say you requested a change of feedback, and I assume from your post it was refused, is that correct?

In that case assuming you have your goods and your buyer has their refund there is nothing else that can be done. Most buyers are reasonable when a seller apologises and refunds for faulty goods but every now and then we all meet one that will stilll eave poor feedback. The feedback is a reflection of how they think it all went and they are perfectly entitled to have an opinion. The only feedback that ebay will consider removing is if it refers to any paypal or ebay dispute or is extremely racist or rude.

I bought a small table from ebay that the buyer had said was sturdy. When I lifted it out of the box it fell to pieces. I emailed the seller who said he stood by what he said, it was a sturdy table. I did feel as if he was calling me a liar or possibly he thought I was scamming. Nevertheless he gave me a full refund and told me to keep the goods. I think this is what buyers expect from sellers. You have to take their word for it that something has happened to the item during transit. You could have offered to pay the postage to return the item to you. A genuine buyer would surely agree to send something back if the postage was paid.

A buyer though is allowed to leave a neg if that is how they feel the transaction went.

The request to change feedback went to your buyer, they refused so that is all you can do.

I think this is very unfair to the seller ,it seems that no one protect the seller's rights..

Are you suggesting therefore that a buyer should be happy to get a faulty item? I certainly wouldn't be.

Do eBay not allow sellers to add a comment when negative feedback is left anymore? I remember they used to do that years and years ago...

If they still do that, make sure the comment is polite as it will show other potential buyers how you handle complaints!
  • I love Etsy for the opposite reason, if something goes wrong most buyers will give you the opportunity to 'put things right' before leaving feedback. I had a ring break a few days after it was recieved and the customer messaged me. I immediately did a full refund and sent out a replacement. No negative feedback. Etsy isn't my main source of income so I can afford to give that level of customer service. The lady even bought a matching necklace with her 'refund' money so it never actually left me out of pocket, just 'out of profit'.

On the other side I was sent the wrong pair of watch movements by another seller on Etsy. She immediately apologised, promised to send the right ones out immediately and said I could keep the wrong ones (more expensive) free of charge. I gave her positive feedback because of the level of service she'd given. Packing up the wrong items was an honest mistake and she did everything she could to rectify it.

eBay, on the other hand, is just mean! (well, lots of buyers are). I worry every time I send something out, just in case it isn't exactly as described, or it breaks in the post. Buyers have to understand that things can get broken in the post and it could well be the couriers fault. They should give the seller a chance to rectify the situaton and then base their feed back on how the seller did.

So the seller should have a right to sell a faulty item and the buyer should like it or lump it then? All I can say is thank god for Paypal buyer protection without that no customer would be happy to risk shopping on ebay without customers there's little point being a seller.
