Broadband microfilters

Hi, just wanted a bit of 'knowledge' from any broadband / telephone experts!

I am having broadband next monday, when line is going to ADSL. Thought I would be clever as have microfilters already and put them in place. Checked phone and tone present, so assumed all ok. Later on, neighbour informed me that they had been trying my number all afternoon and it was engaged....checked phone and it doesnt like having microfilter plugged into analogue line. I presume this is the reason, and they only work when ADSL present, but would like a definite answer if anyone can help.

Thanks, Gardnt1

Have you tried calling your phone provider? They should be able to answer this for you.

Yes, but fed up of hanging on the phone being told how busy BT are! Thought this might be quicker.

The line should still work with filters in place, even without BB. The filters allow low frequency (speech stuff) through to the phone, diverting high frequency (BB) to the modem. If plugged into a line with no BB it shouldn't make any difference - something is wrong!

  • xpol5iv is correct, the line should still work with fliters even before the broadband is active, the first thing to do is remove all of the filters and dial your number from a mobile to check it's not engaged. Then add the filters one at a time, call again and see when it stops working, that should tell you where the problem lies.
If you call BT you'll be told similar. If you insist on an engineer then they'll come to your house, do what I've said and tell you which of your filters/phones is the problem. Then charge you £120+
  • Hey, that's not my sig!

    edit: removed erroneous sig.
