Low cost airline refund

As a long time lurker it's now my turn to ask for help.
Sam (My wife) and I flew out to Italy for a well earned holiday
with a 'low cost airline'.
Very sadly I've had to pop back to the UK because I was needed at
work urgently so couldn't use my booked return flight.
Work organised another not quite so 'low cost' flight for me to get back.

One of my staff paid for the original flights with a credit card but as I've
been so busy for the last year I forgot to buy travel insurance.
My question is can I claim back my return flight taxes? any help
would be appreciated as things are tough at the moment and I have
3 kids to support.

Thanks in advance Dave

You can but you need to read their terms and conditions because most low cost airlines charge an administration fee which equals or exceeds the taxes, so the reality is rather different

Have you had to curtail the holiday completely Dave? Surely you can get the work situation sorted and get yourself back out there to enjoy the rest of your hols? Then you can use the return flight. I mean - if you don't, how is the nearest and dearest gonna get herself and the three kids back, she may have to ask total strangers to help her with the kids on board the plane - or they may not even let her fly with them if she has no other adult.

Hello Dave, just out of interest do you live in central London?

Has your business cut back so severely on the security side that when needed, staff can't cope with a major crisis ?

If you had your flight paid for then how are you out of pocket? It must be hard to be so busy for a year that you could not arrange travel insurance. Shouldn't your firm compensate you for any loss(as they have already with your flight)?

Travel Insurance excludes 'civil commotion' which is why he had to return to work.

But others at his work overclaimed expenses and the rules are much tighter now, so I'm not sure if the new tighter rules would allow him to get the taxes back.
