Hi guys,
i have recently got a new job in sales and it involves me to travel quite a bit, i havent got a car, but have to get one, i am willing to spend about 4000 pounds (borrowing off a friend and paying back weekly)
Does any body know of a nice looking car, that is between £2-4000, low miles per gallon, and cheap(or cheapish) to tax and insure? im at a bit of a loss with it (i dont want to go on finance because if i do and something goes wrong with the job i don't want to be left in debt!)

any ideas on cars? (needs to be 50000 miles on the clock second hand topps too!)

i know this is a narrow search but wwould love some help!
Thanks guys!!

Nick

Why must it have less than 50,000 miles? I always buy high mileage cars approx 130 - 150,000,
4 or 5 years old, Max price £2500 I try and buy for £2000.

I will run it for about 4 years, Adding 20,000 or less to it and sell it on for about £500 less than i paid.

Mileage doesnt mean a lot these days. Lots of oil changes will see engines with 200,000+ miles, Even petrol ones.

That's sound enough when you aren't doing much in the way of mileage but a car with 120k and @ around 5 years old could, if you're unlucky and they havent been done need a complete suspension refresh as well as all the other bits and pieces starting to go that fail with age - particularly if, as the op (reading between the lines) you will be doing a fair mileage.

Don't get me wrong I usually buy higher mileage cars too, but I only do around 6k per year and am happy to do work myself.

I would say if the op could find an ex fleet car with high miles at 3 years old that just happens to have had a recent suspension reworking then that would be a good buy. Not sure what you could get in the way of that for £4k though, maybe a hyundai/Kia?

Im tempted to throw the Honda Accord in. You can probably get a decent 2004/2005 for £4kish (haggle a £4500 down). tax is £125 a year. Motorway MPG is incredible. It will go for miles and miles without breaking down. looks the business. very comfortable. great car

If it's too big the civic diesel of the same age is what im driving currently. same tax band, can get 60mpg+ on motorway, big enough for 5 adults (the 5 door) and again is built to go forever. insurance group 6 so relatively low too...
