Cheap Car Insurance for the OVER 25s.

Evening One and All

I've tried searching for this information but the results seem to focus on the under 25s and/or are out of date.

I'm looking to get back on the road soon, I stopped driving 30 months ago (NCB have expired now) and I've been pricing up insurance for different cars, the cheapest I could find was a £700 for 10 months (admiral NCB accelerator type thing) and that's adding my mum on as an additional driver (not fronting, insurance in my name).

Can anyone suggest any companies that the comparison sites don't search but have been cheaper for you or someone you know, or is there one that'll take into consideration expired NCB and my frequent use of car hire?
If it wasn't for the mistakes I made in the past (and learned from), I wouldn't be who and where I am today. It doesn't matter if you've cocked up, what matters is that you put it right and apologise. x

Co-operative and AA have been really cheap. However, i find going on insurance on my own is very expensive, £800, however, when I add my father it drops to £340. And I am over 25, no claims ever and driving for 6 years.

There is a weird system we have. Swinton once tried to hike the fee from £400 to over a £1000. Asked them why and they couldn't explain it at all. As soon as I mentioned I was moving, they could bring it right down to just over £400. All dodgy.

CC-operative green is my current one and my father is with AA. Avoid supermarkets at all costs You will find lots of nasty little clauses with exemptions which works out not much is covered at all.
  • When I add my dad it goes UP! He's a CNC Milling Machine Engineer when I've to choose his profession, I have to just select engineer. Is there another option (without telling porkies) that I could select for his job title?

I doubt it. If they find you filled something out incorrectly they will just invalidate any future claim. NCB expired? Never heard of this to be honest. If I was you, I would just put down how many years you had. The forms don't ask if your NCB expired.

NCB expire after 2 years if you've not had insurance in this time. When selecting from the drop down menu there's an option for 'not in the past 2 years'

I have never come across this option when looking online, but then I used moneysupermarket.com

Zenith insurance can be cheap, there is another one where as soon as you mention them, everyone else tries to give you a lower insurance rate. Endsliegh it might be.

At least one company I know of accepts it 3 years old (aviva though)
