    Guess it would depend on the supplier and the tariff. If there is a daily standing charge, then you will be responsible for this from the date you started paying rent.

    You should probably get someone to do a meter reading as soon as possible and make sure that it tallies with what it says on your bill (when it comes). Just so you don't end up paying for any of the previous tenants' leccy. (Remember to do the same at the end of your tenancy too ;))
