eon chasing debt after 6 years!

As the title says eon have recently sent me a bill for a old property to my new address saying that i owe £300, the dates on the bills are from 5 and a half years ago, and i wasnt even with eon in this property.
They say its the electric used before i switched over to another company but i think this is previous electricity used which would be the responsibility of the landlord/old tenant?
Should i pay it without proof i owe it?
Can they legally make me pay it?

Well, you can either address it and sort it out or keep your head down for another 6 months after which it will be statute barred.

    You choose.

    Hi jordanlitz,

The only way to sort this out and find out for sure what the bill is for is to speak to E.ON.

It sounds like that you moved in to a property that we already supplied, you then changed supplier, as this can take around 6-8 weeks to complete it could be the bill for this time.

I am only speculating here as I don't have any account details, so I could be wrong :o.

I know this is ages ago, but do you remember contacting the current supplier when you moved in with your meter readings?

From your post it sounds like you have received the actual bill, do the details match up with when you were there?

If you need any more info from me, just ask.

    Helena :)

You may actually find that the bar only applies for debts that have not been pursued for 6 years, and therefore the bar does not apply here.
  • actually its debts that havent been paid for 6 years or rather actively and finanically acknowledged in that time
