I think this is such a lovely thought, small gestures like this will make the kids feel loved and at home in their new environment. :A

Yes, I am really touched, as well. Do let us know the outcome, and what they like! :T

Thank you so much for the replies. I will read them all very carefully. The 7 year old eats everything but the 10 year is more fussy and is missing home. He said his favorite dinner is beetroot soup with potatoes! I understand you eat it cold so I will give it a go!! x
If you want to do something, then the only thing holding you back is yourself, so get on and do it!:rotfl:
  • There is a Lithuanian resident where I work at the moment and she cooked for us the yesterday.
She made potatoes - cut into halves (the longest way), boiled until just cooked then cooked in the oven with buter on adding just a little cheese after they had some colour - served hot with the cheese melted. She served these with large meatballs made with fresh mince, onion and spices - these were fried in butter with sliced carrots being added - served once the meatballs and carrots were cooked through. A version of coleslaw made by finely grating carrots, cabbage and garlic then mixed with a little mayonaise. She did a bowl of sliced cucumber and tomatoes as well.
I can honestly say it was some of the best food I've had made for me yet by a resident!

Beetroot soup can be eaten cold or hot. If it's with potatoes I would say eat hot - hot soup and hot potatoes

I'm Polish so my food is very similar to Lithuanian
