    Thank you so much for the replies. I will read them all very carefully. The 7 year old eats everything but the 10 year is more fussy and is missing home. He said his favorite dinner is beetroot soup with potatoes! I understand you eat it cold so I will give it a go!! x

  • There is a Lithuanian resident where I work at the moment and she cooked for us the yesterday.
    She made potatoes - cut into halves (the longest way), boiled until just cooked then cooked in the oven with buter on adding just a little cheese after they had some colour - served hot with the cheese melted. She served these with large meatballs made with fresh mince, onion and spices - these were fried in butter with sliced carrots being added - served once the meatballs and carrots were cooked through. A version of coleslaw made by finely grating carrots, cabbage and garlic then mixed with a little mayonaise. She did a bowl of sliced cucumber and tomatoes as well.
    I can honestly say it was some of the best food I've had made for me yet by a resident!

    Beetroot soup can be eaten cold or hot. If it's with potatoes I would say eat hot - hot soup and hot potatoes

    I'm Polish so my food is very similar to Lithuanian
