New Tesco Clubcard Plus (blue & white stripey one looking like a Value cheapo one!)

Anyone received one of these new replacement cards yet (to replace the old green ones)?

Is it just me or have they been deliberately designed to look as cheap and nasty as possible to wean people off using them and onto other Tesco products?

Still no chip - just a magnetic strip, as insecure as ever, and impossible to use at a self-service checkout as a result.

More to the point, though, the wife took one look at it (it has the same colours as a value tin of beans - complete with stripes) and swore never to use it again! Quote:

"If they think I'm carrying that horrible thing around, they can think again - I wouldn't be seen dead with it."

  • Sorry to drag up this old(ish) thread but I though it was worth putting on record that it is possible to use a Clubcard Plus card at a self service checkout, or at the two different older and newer types I've come across.

It's just a case of swiping it on the screen mount card reader (older model) or inserting it into the vertically mounted card reader just to the right of the receipt printer (newer model). A member of staff will then need to come over and ask you to sign the sales slip that is then printed. Simples.

Does anyone have a picture of the new design, just so we can prepare ourselves for the new Tesco Value design?

    Cheers,
    TLM
  • Here's their latest card design.

  • Thanks Doc. I don't think it looks too bad, maybe even a slight improvement over the old green version. I had images of a card looking very similar to the valentine card that zx81 sent this year.

PS I think we can now guess why zx81's location is "somewhere in the loft". I don't think he's been let down since February 14th!
  • What's the differnece between a clubard plus and a normal clubcard?

and When did tesco do green clubcards? Mine has always been blue and red

The green one was similar to this:

The Clubcard Plus is loaded with cash (usually by a monthly direct debit) and gets more points than the standard card. Hasn't been available for several years now, I think, but existing cards just carry on.

    Ah, fair enough

i assume they discontinued new applications since the clubcard CC came on the go

This works for a self-service till, but since Chip and Pin was implemented on the 'Pay at Pump' petrol pumps we haven't been able to use the green CC+ without going into the kiosk. I had hoped there would be a chip in the new cards so I could just pay and get on with my life without queuing up to sign a chitty.

Do we still get extra club card points and if so, how many?

Assuming this is referring to Clubcard Plus, I believe its still an additional 1 Clubcard point per £1 spend in Tesco.
