Ring royal mail and ask them for the address of the PO box, royal mail can only refuse if the PO box belonged to say a safe house for battered women etc. A PO box has no special rights to anonimity at all and is not covered by the Data Protection Act.

I have done this a few times, much the the PO box owners dismay... they thought just because they had a PO box they had some special anonimity protection..... they do not.
  • Hi everyone. I'm a new to this, so I'm not sure if I should have started a new thread, but here goes. I have just had to pay £288 to Global Parking UK Ltd to get a clamp removed (I was parked in the area behind Flex Gym in Uxbridge). I was in the drivers seat for a few minutes with the engine running when a guy knocked on the window, asked if I was a member of the gym and if not I would have not pay to get the clamp released or my car towed (basically him talking to me was a distraction whilst they put the clamp on). Panicked a bit and didn't know what to do and paid the fee - couldn't wait to get away from there to be honest, but now I feel I have been completely shafted. Is there any point in me persuing this further?
    Thanks

Absolutely. Your best bet is a letter-before-action to Flex Gym demanding the money back.

How did you pay ? If by credit card you can attempt to get your money back through a chargeback due to you being intimidated into paying. By the way clamping is being made illegal on private land from this monday
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

There are also lots of threads on the Pepipoo forums about this gym. I suggest reading through them and seeing how other people got their money back:

Yes there are loads of threads about this one. Every single time that pressure has been put on the gym they have coughed up the refund themselves. God only knows why they ever thought having clampers there was a good idea.

So go to pepipoo and see this through to your refund.

Also, if anyone has a (ccj) judgement to enforce, check out "garnishee order" on Google. You can threaten to apply for an oral examination (no dentistry, but a Court hearing before Clerk to the Court, under oath) demanding sight of all relevant records - at the examination - showing bank accounts, balances, property owned, who owes them money, mention that the purpose is to apply immediately after the hearing for the garnishee order to ensure payment.

This will force the recipient of such an order (Bank, client etc) to pay you before it pays out anything else to or for the benefit of the debtor irrespective of other liabilities like mortgage, school fees, car tax, insurance or any SO's or Direct debits. Job done! FU2 any remaining non-refunding clampers!

Alternatively, they may wish to send a bankers draft within seven days......

    It usually works.

I was clamped within 3 minutes of stopping in Flexi-gym's car park (Uxbridge). We appealed (never heard a word from Global) then issued a claim in the small claims court. Judgement was served against them. We gave them 7 days to pay up.
That deadline has now passed. To issue a warrant will cost a further £100.00. The only address we have to send the baliffs to is a post box address. Internet searches on this company reveals they have another address in Rickmansworth. But this is apparently a 'ghost address', according to a victim who visited the actual site and spoke to a neighbour. Another victim of Global Parking reports they have a yard 'The Old Coal Yard' in West Drayton. This is chained very securely. There is no sign of anyone there, but lots of Global Parking UK Ltd signs.

My worry is that we will not be able to enforce judgement. Small Claims court will not give advice, only point out what options are available. I'd be grateful for any practical advice.

    Thank you.

I am a Spanish tourist, the month of August 2012 pay 275 pounds, but I put a Spanish police report, Master Card have asked that my money back for being a fraud, and December 7, the day I returned the bank money.
Master Card to recognized GLOBAL PARKING is a fraud
  • Congratulations, its nice when a driver gets their own back. Now they can no longer clamp you can come back safely.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    ¡Hola! :D

Well done for getting your money returned! And clamping is now a criminal offence in the UK, since 1st October, so it will never happen again.

If you visit here and ever get a 'parking ticket' then if it is from a private company then you can ignore it, never pay it. Real parking tickets in the UK are from the Police or Council and have the word 'Penalty' in the title - private fake tickets are called PARKING CHARGE NOTICES and you must never pay one.
