help, need laptop recommendation asap

Hi

got a rare day off tomorrow, and am wanting to buy a laptop. It will be used for games and dvds.

The main game is Civilisation IV, so needs:
1.8ghz processor
512mb ram
128mb video card with pixel and vertex shaders (???)
DVD-Rom drive

That may as well be in french to me.

Can you recommend anything, and am I going to get it for less than £450??

Thanks,

Metherer

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but laptops suitable for playing recent games are not cheap.

You would struggle to get that specification for less than £450, in fact I'd go so far as to say you won't

The graphics card is often the sticking point, good mobile cards are expensive. You could get a Dell Inspiron 6400 for example with 1024Mb RAM, Dual Core Processor and 128Mb Shared Memory GMA950 video card for just under £600 and that would only just satisfy the specs.

Remember also what you've quoted is also probably the minimum spec, so if you're scraping it, the game will likely run like a dog.

    bu**er.

the civ4 specs were the recommended not the minimum, but they didn't seem to differ that much, from what I could see.

Will see if I can pick up one just suitable for dvd's and basic games then.
