NPower Cold Calling....what are they trying to sell me?

This is the second time in about 2 months that NPower have cold called saying 'Are you paying a monthly rental fee for your gas meter?'
'We can eliminate it'
As always, getting the real story from them is like getting blood from a stone.

Does anyone know what the catch is here??

usually your charged to use your meter, for electric the price is around £1.20 a month or less, it depends where you live and who your distrobutor is. this cost goes towards the upkeep and replacement of your meter.
Now because they are gunning for custom they will use every trick in the book Npower basicly dont charge you a standing charge to use your meter and you can save £60ish a year BUT the cost of your tarrif will be higher to absorb the cost.

Dollarjon has hit the nail on the head. Also most companies have no standing charge options if you particularly want to pay just per unit, so there's no reason to switch unless you think you can make a saving, in which case use a cashback switching site so you get the spondoolies not the sales rep.
