Year abroad insurance

My daughter will be doing her second year at university in Canada. She must take out their health insurance policy when over there for £290, but this leaves the following that need to be covered:
Travel to and from Canada
Any trips to the USA whilst she is over there
Belongings, computer etc whilst she is there.
The Gap year cover/ study year abroad cover is very expensive - as the health insurance is included again, but would not be required.
Any suggestions as to how to save some money here? We spoke to a broker who only offered gap year cover in essence.
I have posted this in the Insurance section, but got no response
