Hi Guys, hope someone can help me!
I'm looking to buy a Tom Tom for my boyfriend, as a special 30th Birthday pressie.
Confused over the choice though!!, his friend has a Tom tom and really rates it and he has said that he is saving for one.
Ok, so which one?, he does a lot of driving for work, but would also like it to be portable. Any ideas, his birthday is not until March, so have a bit of time, any advice feel free to reply or PM me.
Thanks so much.

The TomTom One is the smallest and cheapest of the bunch.0

I've got a Tom Tom One, I think its great so simple and quick to use.
I'm just a bit gutted I bought mine last September for £214 and now they've gone down to £159!
The only problem with the Tom Tom one is its the only Tom Tom that you can't link up to your phone for hands free even though its got Bluetooth.

TomTom ONE. That's all you need. All the others have extra features that you don't really need for a lot more money!
Does exactly what it says on the tin. I got mine for £240 earlier in the year and it was a bargain at that price, let alone what you can get it for now!0 -
How come it doesn't link up, even though it has blue tooth?
Very confused, if it's a portable one how do you use it?, sorry if I' dim, way out of my depth here!!:rotfl:0 -

It has Bluetooth, but only one-way, so if your phone has internet access, then the TomTom will be able to download traffic information (not essential and not actually that good to be honest...). As all the others above has said the TomTom One is the most simple and has all you need.
It's portable in that it doesn't need to be plugged in to the car to work and is quite small (although you normally leave it plugged in when you're driving). But you can use it wandering the streets - although of course you do look a bit of a pillock!
The TT One comes with either UK/Ireland maps or most of Europe for about £30 more. If your BF will be driving in Europe, it's cheaper to get them now rather than as an add-on. (In fact on Amazon, for example, the Europe version is only £13 more)Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Ok, think I may be getting the hang of this, still don't understand why the other Tom Toms are more, is it because you can use it abroad. Any ideas if I should buy it soon, Halfords have a sale on Tom Toms (any ideas on Tom Tom One, or boast for the others?, seeing as their in the sale?) or wait?0

They can all be used abroad, since even if you don't buy the version with the maps you can buy additional maps of different countries later on. Whilst it's cheaper to buy the additional maps now if you're going to need them, consider the fact that they will go out of date, so if for example you don't think that you'll need them this year, you're probably better off waiting and buying them later.
The other TomToms add the following
510: adds widescreen (but equally less portable and heavier)
can be used as a hands-free phone
710: as 510 but also has full maps of Europe
910: as 710 but also speaks the names of streets, has maps of USA and plays MP3s
None of this is any better than the One for basic navigation, they just add "toys".Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

As to price, the cheapest I can see is £179 at Dixons by by going to https://www.dixons.co.uk and using code 289848TOM.
You can also get a further 2.5% off Dixons if you go via QuidcoSays James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
