I am currently using BT broadband with a voyager 210 adsl router and the problem is that the connection keeps dropping out, after a few minutes comes back on. Have bought a new filter ( as advised by bt ) no change , disconnected both telephone and sky cables with still no change any help please or is anyone else suffering the same problem. Windows XP home edition in use. Thanks for any help or advice.

The problem your having sounds like a filter problem, not faulty filter but plugged in wrong or a filter missing on a socket or somthing.
you dont nessarily need a filter on every socket, just those that come out of the back of your main socket if your extentions come out of the front then just stick 1 filter in there between the box and the extention. you also need to nkow that some ISP's moan if you use a telephone extention lead between the modem/router and the socket. Again these are problem I have seen in some houses.0 -
New filter? Where do you have the filter installed? The phone line that comes into the house should go DIRECTLY to the Router.
The filters should be fitted between the incoming phone line and your telephone handset. The filter is to stop the ADSL from causing interference on your phone.
Is there any patterns to your dropout, e.g. does it happen at the same time each day, or all the time etc.0 -
the phone line box is connected to the filter and a direct line to the router. phone line from the other socket in the filter.
the drop outs are not regular internet works for 10-15 mins then cuts out and re-starts after a couple of minutes, sometimes goes fro an hour without any problems.
thanks for responding0 -
Are you able to unplug the rest of the house and just hav the Router connected to the line just to confirm the fault is still there (would then rule out anything else in the house)..
Does your Router give you any diagnostics, specifically your Signal/Noise ratio and Attenuation figures (given in dBs)
What speed ADSL do you have, has it always done this since installation or has this just started.
If its just started, have you installed any new electrical equipment in the house which might be interfering? Just a thought. http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk is an extremely knowlegable forum for faultfinding such faults (its quite common!)0
