Moving house - I need cheapest place for big boxes

Hi all,

I am gonna be moving house soon and have seen a 'moving pack' (basically some massive boxes) from Argos but was wondering if anyone knew of any cheap places online to order some decent sized strong boxes from.

Thanks in advance.

you might get them for free if you asked places like comet and currys if you can have some of their old tv packaging boxes etc

    just an idea

If you are using a removal company they will lend/give you as many as you need free of charge.

  • Thanks for the advice, does anyone know of a good removal company?

What sort of prices do these companies usually charge roughly?

    Thanks again :)

Depends on how many rooms worth you are moving and how far you are going. Worth getting a quote from several companies if you are going for the big ones as we found quite a difference in price between them.

ask Asda for their banana boxes and lids - over several trips we got enough for the whole house - great to stack as they are all the same size and strong

  • Supermarkets are a good place for big boxes, they'll have loads in the back if you ask.

They'll also have free bubble wrap if you ask nicely!

  • I'm sure there were some boxes in the email from Lidl today - offers starting next Thursday. Sorry can't check it as deleted the email when I'd made a note of any products I was interested in. Worth checking if you have one near you - to sign up for the newsletter I found Lidl by googling.

Try your local freecycle site, people are often disposing of packing boxes after their house move in our area.

House moving, get a company in to do it for you. I have helped a few mates move out of home and that was really 1 room and it takes a few trips and is hard work loading driving unloading as I doubt you will have a huge truck like removal companies.

Another mate of mine who is a skinflint, if he dropped a penny it would hit him on the back of the head as it fell. he used to fill up his car with £5.01 every time and pay with a fiver because they never ask for the 1p and do it 5 times to fill his tank he is that tight.

Anyway back on topic he got quotes in for moving home and decided it was easy to do and hired a van for 24 hours he started at 8am and finished at 10am the following morning yeah he managed to get out of paying the extra day for going over not sure how but he did. he was knackered for the rest of the week and he had to sort everything out, stuff got broken and dammaged. It isnt worth the hassle he said he missed the chance of sitting down in his new home after it was all moved over as they still had a load of stuff to do.

As for boxes dont go for huge ones they will need 2 people to carry and will get very heavy, the best boxes are bannana boxes so raid the super markets.
