totally confused!!
I had to find a new electricity supplier as my Scottish Power deal had ended, so I used comparison sites, only for N.Power to come up at the top so I called them and they told me it was all wrong on the comparison site, so, I got a better deal from them, the "N.Power Price fix 2013" and was happy. until the next day, E.On cold called me, they got my number from me using the comparison site , they then offered me a better deal than N.Power had, the "E.On fixed price 5" so I then call N.Power to cancel and they then give me a better deal that "only they can give me if I call to cancel a deal they have previously offered"... which was the "N.Power Go Fix 6" that apparently had ended but I could have it, and as it was cheaper they said than the E.On deal, I said OK to it, and they changed me to that... are you still with me?!... well, I called E.On back today and tell them I'm cancelling with them now,as N.Power has given me a cheaper Tariff now, and they reply with, Ah but, we're fixed til August 2013 and you will pay us slightly more now, but there's no get out fee, you can leave anytime, but N.Power is only fixed til July 2012, and if you leave before that time you pay £20 to get out.
All I want to know is who should I go with? one that is slightly cheaper (N.Power) but only fixed til next July, or one that is slightly dearer (E.On) but is fixed for 2 years with no get out clauses, this has mashed my brain!! and at present I'm signed up with both, but have to get out of 1 asap! does anyone have any advice please! it would be gratefully recieved!!!

Don't put your real phone number in when using comparison sites.0

Hi, I don't see that there is any need for advice.
You known the cheapest.
You know the longest fix.
After that it's a personal decision !!!!
Seriously though, you have missed the best fixes, so these tariffs are the replacements of the replacements of better fixes.
It is all about getting the timing right.
At this point in the cycle only you can make the ultimate decision, it's a gamble as to when prices will peak, fixing is like an insurance against the possibility of further rises. Nobody knows what the situation will be in one or two years time.
If you had fixed 3-4 months ago you would now be quids in ( even taking into account any SP exit fees ) , and even then , as always, it would have also been a gamble, but the longer you leave it as prices rise the less you have to gain by fixing.0 -
Thank you for your replies, I have spent far too much time in the the week or so it's taken to get a good deal, or the god knows how much money it has cost me in phone calls to talk to the companies and think it's disgraceful that we are urged to use comparison sites, but they have their facts wrong a lot of the time, and I don't know if its the power suppliers that give false prices to the comparison sites to reel you in, or the sites being coaxed by the power companies to offer discounts to get us in etc. or the comparison sites lying to us because they get a reward from the fuel suppliers everytime someone signs up via them, all I know is, I feel the power companies & comparison sites are deliberately confusing us, offering no standing charges and 2 tier rates for fuel, then others tariffs are standing charges by the day and a lower set rate, get out early fines for some and not others, 1 year, 2 year or month to month contracts etc. how the normal everyday person without a maths degree is supposed to understand all this is beyond me.
it is getting more confusing all the time. I think that they should never have been privatised, the government were wrong to hand it over to private companies, they should be run by the government and then there should be a seperate ombudsman who watches over it and makes sure we all get a fair deal, across the board. these private companies have got to be too many and too complicated now, it's no better than a lottery. theres is new supplier companies and comparison sites starting up by the day, and everyone offering different deals & freebies to tempt us, like the free monitors to monitor how much electric is the most ridiculous thing I have seen, we have to plug them in, to show us how much electricity we are using, so in essence, we pay them more for the electricity we are using monitoring our consumption! anyone with one brain cell knows, you leave something turned on when you are not using it, or we leave things on standby, we use electricity unnecessarily- simples, as the meercat says, oh and we can have a free stuffed cute meercat if we use compare the market, or money in cashback with ohers, so now the comparison sites are competing againt each other to get us to use them too, it's a whole industry thats gone too far in my estimation and it should be stopped. I'm still confused, but now I'm angry after going through this for a week now and realising what a farce it all is after studying it more than I've done in the past. . now, I have to do it all again for my heating oil, my house insurances and car insurance, my holiday insurance, even phone & pet insurances do it.
Then there's the t.v and radio adverts for the comparison site that annoy the pants off people, I can't be the only person who scrambles to press mute on the remote control the moment I see the Go Compare ad coming on so it doesn't get stuck in my head for the rest of the day and makes me want to strangle that guy who sings it! I have no idea if this is only my feelings or does anyone else feel the same as me over all this? or maybe I just need Prozac!0
