travel insurance declaring - where do you draw the line

sorted travel insurance and declared i have sciatica which they accepted £50 premium on top.

have developed a pain in my side and off to gp's tomorrow, my question is where do you draw in declaring to the insurance company - i am assuming they make checks with GP and if you are treated as part of the policy and not mentioned then you are not covered.

we travel in 3 weeks and i could end up with niggly things and not knowing what to declare.

They sometimes ask of you are awaiting any tests, so far you aren't and probably won't be before the holiday start, so I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe worth asking the doc what to do depending on what his diagnosis is.

Alternatively give them a ring after seeing doc, the £50 extra premium will probably cover several pre existing conditions

If you have already taken out the insurance policy before the pain in your side developed I don't think there is an issue.

    WRONG!

As far as insurance is concerned, ALWAYS BE 100% up front with them, as ultimately it will depend on the policy wording, and last thing you want is to find out, whilst laid in a foreign hospital bed, that your travel insurance is NULL & VOID!.

Of course, you could just risk it, but please dont post on here in 3/4 weeks time, stating that you are stuck in a foreign country, and your insurance will not cover you..........

I'm missing something. Are you saying that after taking out an insurance policy and declaring any pre-existing conditions, if anything else occurs you should then be charged more?

No, not quite. What i am saying is that it SHOULD BE DECLARED, especially with annual policies. Chances are, you will probably not be charged any more if something developes after you have taken the policy, however most insurances will still require you to declare any material change in your health within the policy. failure to do so could invalidate the policy!

Seriously I would declare everything or don't bother with travel insurance at all. If you go 'half hearted' and end up in trouble the result could be the same anyway as insurance companies generally try to get out of paying at all costs if they legally can.
