Hello,
I am hoping somebody can help me!!
I moved in to my rented flat at the beginning of may 06 and have never paid an electricty bill, as nobody was living there before me there was no bill to be changed over!
I am now worried because I need to set something up and dont know how, and i expect i am going to have a huge bill, i also dont have any meter readings when i first moved in (stupid i know!!).
Im confused by the situation and dont know if i should just choose an electricty company and ring them?
If anybody has any advice i would really appreciate it.
thankyou xx

Take the serial number off your electricity meter and ring your local MPAS service who can tell you who the present supplier is. Their number can be found here. If you are unsure which service covers your region, post the first half of your postcode on the forum (ie CF24) and someone will be able to advise you.
You should contact the current supplier first before you think about choosing another provider because transfers cannot be backdated, so you will need to make sure the current supplier has the details so you are charged correctly.
Take a meter reading asap, unfortunately you will have to rely on an estimate for when you moved in but the sooner they can get an actual read the better.
Most companies will let you set up a direct debit or payment card to spread the balance you have accrued over the past few months along with your ongoing consumption, however if you did this you wouldn't be able to change supplier.0 -
Can anyone explain how this can be? No bills arrived for 8 months
I'd have thought they'd have sent out the est bills and demanded payment. Maybe the bills are going to the landlord?
What does your landlord say?0 -
Could be one of numerous things. New build property, so account not set up or bills being sent but addressed to plot so getting lost by the Royal Mail. Maybe the landlord/builder hasn't closed their account and the correspondence is going direct to them. Possibley there isn't a MPAN & supplier registered for the property - much rarer with electricity than gas. Or maybe a glitch on the supplier's computer system means when they closed the last account down they didn't open a temporary account for the new occupier and so it hasn't sent any bills. Until the op follows the steps above it'll remain a mystery to us all.0
