Sorry Pluschris but impossible to say without knowing the full details of the OP's individual experience.

Our sales complaints team will be able to find this out, though.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

No need to be specific to the OP's case, just a general question, do some of the comparison sites supply you with numbers to call?

I know it happens with comparison sites for car insurance as I put my phone number into one once (never again!) but never heard of it happening with energy?

Erm, sorry but I dont think thats right.

Why on earth would the comparison site hand over your details to an energy company so they can switch you directly therefore forgoing the commission money that keeps them going?
The answer is not obvious, but it is simple.

The comparison site themselves rang or they sold the phone numbers to a 3rd party marketing company, who are freelancing and themselves claiming commission form EON or which ever supplier they deem gives them most commission.

Another good reason never to buy from a cold call, even if you want to deal with the company they represent.

But my question was about a call from E-on directly, not third parties or the comparison sites, its pretty obvious they would want the commision

    The OP said..
I received a phone call from E-On because I recently went onto a couple of price comparison websites

Just curious as to why the comparison site would pass on the info and miss out on the commission?

Third parties often ring in the name of another company when they try to get you to sign up for something.

If thats the case its a bit daft of them to phone up and say they are from E-on when the OP would have put they were with E-on in the comparison site isnt it?

Maybe Malc could clarify if E-on have third party call centres that call on their behalf?

    Hi lucretia_ten
With some of the comparison sites, there are tick boxes which need to be unticked to prevent any follow up. I agree with Mikeyorks, make sure you remove the relevant ticks.
    Malc

Malcolm, I also got a call from Eon, but being a private person I am ALWAYS very careful with the tick boxes. Yet Eon still called me. Something is going on with one of the comparison sites where they are not abiding to the tick boxes. Please investigate.

I am now also being bombarded with moneyexpert.com emailings.

To be honest Pluschris, I don't know. I have very little to do with the sales/marketing side of the business but will find out.

The manager who deals with this is away at the moment so I won't find out immediately. However, I've spoken with his colleagues and logged my question ready for his return.

Will let you know once I have an answer.

    Malc,

Could you also ask him the simple questions I asked in Post 12, please.

I feel very uncomfortable about this whole process (tick box or no tick box) and don't understand why it is at all necessarry.

    Thank you.:)
