Car insurance 'home address' question
Having searched around for this I still can't seem to find an answer to my question...
I am looking a buying a new vehicle. If I buy in the near future, I will be staying away from home for a few weeks for work. So, where the insurance is concerned, can anybody advise on what I should be putting for the addresses.
The home address, ie my more perminant addres and the docs will be sent should be my home.
But where should the 'vehicle kept at address' be? Should it be the place I am staying for the next few weeks and then change it when I go back? or should it just be my home?
Bit of a strange one but hoping someone here can help clarify this for me.
Cheers all!

I would advise giving them a call to clarify - the last thing you want is to have to claim, and find they wiggle out of it on a technicality !
You almost certainly need to put your home address as the "permanent place of residence", and also the place where the vehicle is normally kept. However, some companies will have stipulations along the lines of "if the vehicle is kept at a different address for more than 30 days" - all companies are different, so it's impossible to advise you on this forum.
So, give your home address as the place where the car is usually kept, but phone the company to explain your particular situation. They may, or may not, add a slight premium whilst the car is away from home, but better that than finding out you're not insured. Having said that, it's no different than if you were to go on a motor touring holiday for 3 weeks around the UK - you're keeping the car away from home for a few weeks. But better safe than sorry !0 -
Speak to the insurer in question to cover all bases but if it is just a couple of weeks I would doubt they're going to be interested0

Recon you're probably right there. cheers!
Like you say, should the worst happen, atleast I'd be sure i'm covered having actually spoke to them!0 -
A couple of things that will impact the answer the insurance companies answer will probably be, so have the answers ready:
1) Define a few weeks 2-3 weeks or 8-10 weeks, and
2) Away permanently (entire duration) or just working days (mon-fri), and
3) Postcode of other location and were car will be parked overnight.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I had this with a car a few years ago where it was kept in more than one location. I gave the insurance companies both address's and they said they would add it to the record just in case, so it would be covered if stolen from either address.0
