If I remember correctly, Packard Bell is now a sub-brand of Acer. People have contrasting views of both brands, but are not often very enthusiastic...

I suspect Misco-man is wrong. See The Acer Group's FAQ...

Defiantly an Acer brand now. Did not have a good reputation before and Acer never had a good one anyway.

In 2008, Packard Bell was acquired by Taiwan-based Acer Inc. and the combined entities now comprise the third-largest PC Company in the world.

Packard Bell necer had any association with Hewlett Packard. They always have been two different companies, albeit with similar names. As John states above, they are now a subsidiary of Acer (as I believe are E-machines). PB and E-machines both had fairly chequered pasts, but as subsidiaries of the world's (or one of the world's - it varies) biggest PC manufacturers, I think they're a reasonable bet now. Mid-market, mid-quality-ish I suppose.

That Toshiba C660-195 has a VGA webcam ==> 640 x 480 ==> 0.3 megapixels. This is not 'crap', but not very high resolution. You can always buy a better external one for £10-£50!

(Amazing how few people have read that Wikipedia article!)
