deposit questions.. help please

Hi

I am currently moving out of a rented property and am having concerns with the return of the deposit. the landlord has already stated that i have to pay to have all carpets cleaned even though a few are in great condition and dont really need it? can they insist on this? one of the carpets does have a mark on it that i think may not come out, can they charge me for cleaning and then on top of that charge again to replace the carpet should the stain not come out? i want to be fair to the ll but also need to know my rights.

they are also charging me for the cost of paint for them to repaint and I am not sure where i stand on this as most of the small marks are just hand marks or scuff marks and to me are more wear and tear than damage? the walls were not perfect when we moved in either although i will admit they could use a coat of paint.

I am in scotland so there is no requirement to use a rent deposit scheme however on reading the lease it does state one will be used? they have advised however that they are holding the deposit themselves, will this have any bearing on the case should i need to take them to small claims court over the deposit?

they are wanting me out asap to get in and paint/clean carpets etc but my lease isnt up until sunday, i am still in the house tidying up and still have some items there but am not staying in the house so they want to just come and go and let themselves in and out. is it ok for me to refuse this even though i am not actually staying there? they have someone due to move in on the date my tenancy ends so need in to do work, i dont want to be awkward but i have tons to do and could do without the stress of them hanging around.
