Hi All
had to cancel holiday on the 06/08/2011 we were due to be flying out on the 07/08/2011 the holiday was booked through A1 Travel who i notified on the 06/08/2011 was informed that it would be cacelled with no refund it would be down to Sainsburys who the travel insurance is arranged with there Goldcard. i have spoken to them all seems well just think it may take a few weeks to process the problem i have is sainsburys inform me that i will lose £300 staright away to cover the excess airport and credit card taxes will not be claimed also cost of doctor to fill in holiday cancellation form. so upto now the £1400 holiday looks as if claim successfull we will only get a refund of approx £1000
Holiday was booked with our mastercard who i have phoned to try and claim some of the money bach that sainsburys will not pay must admit mastercard seem to be more helpfull than Sainsburys who will dispute
the case and try to claim monies not refunded by Sainsburys.
If Anyone has any advice or similar stories help would very gratefully recieved.
Been going abroad last thirty years never had to claim for anything before all this very Frustrating.

You should be able to claim the airline taxes from the airline / holiday company as they are supposedly only payable to the government when you actually travel. However many companies charge an extortionate fee for that but unless you check you won't know. You might find that whilst you can't claim the taxes you can claim the fee charged to get the taxes back.
I'm surprised the doctor's note isn't reclaimable but that shouldn't have been an expensive item anyway.
CC charges are a pain but AFAIK they can't be claimed back as a "service" was provided and you paid for it.0 -
Don't quite see who you have a claim against. Everyone seems to have performed within their normal terms and conditions. You claim on your insurance for unexpected events and your insurance excess is deducted from the payout, all seems normal. Pleased to see that you had insurance.0

Most insurance policies require you to obtain a doctor's note at your own expense, though not all doctors charge
I suspect you'll get nowhere with this.0 -
you were lucky the doctor gave you a note, we were in the US when our two got it and the drs said they were fit to fly, even the airline werent bothered.
As mentioned some of the taxes probably arent part of your claim as you can claim these back any way.0 -
thanks for feedback we will have to wait and see how sainsburys perform when paying out.
