    owain i totally agree

and just because its a budget wedding doesnt mean they have to know its a small budget wedding

    a £100000 wedding is still a budget !!!!!!!!
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5
  • You'll be a lot happier if you aren't worrying how to pay for it afterwards.

My point entirely :T I want to start married life happy and not worrying about money.

I would just like to say that your plans sound great, and some of the best weddings where I have been a guest, have been the ones on a smaller budget such as yours.More personal and much more fun.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you, which I am sure it will.
  • My first wedding came in at under £1K.
We married in a registry office (£90 in all - £30 each for giving notice and £30 for ceremony). My dress was from Dark Angel and cost £100. His clothes were also from Dark Angel (shirt, trousers and a silk waistcoat) and came in at about £120. Our rings were white gold and engraved and cost £70 for the pair from Argos ;)
We didn't have a wedding breakfast, but everyone invited to the registry office came with us to a pub for lunch and paid their own way.
In the evening, we hired a lovely hall, which was free and my mother bought two bottles of wine for each table (one red and one white) and a glass of champagne for the toasts from the hall which came in at about £200. For flowers, I had a bouquet of lillies and we had a small centrepiece made up for each table, a little bouquet for my maid of honour and button holes for the men - a local florist did them for us for £65 for the lot, and even gave me some beautiful strands of baby's breath to twist in my hair. We hired a DJ for the reception (£150) and my MIL and four sisters-in-law made the buffet as our wedding gift. Another friend made us a beautiful cake as our gift, and a third friend who was a hobby-photographer came and did our pictures. I bought balloons and streamers, and a couple of friends decorated the hall for me before the evening (and even contributed some helium "just married" balloons tied to our chairs!) My father (an artist and free-lance illustrator) made our invitations as a surprise after we announced our engagement.

So it is very possible to have a budget wedding. My only upset was that the registry office was like a revolving door and we really didn't get the chance to enjoy that part of things - it all felt horribly rushed and we were virtually kicked out at the end! The other problem was that the service and the reception were held in two different towns, as our first choice for the reception let us down at the last minute, so that caused an awful lot of confusion. Because I planned it all pretty much by myself, I hadn't factored in what would happen in the hours between lunch and reception, so I ended up being dropped off at my hotel for the night by my mum who went to help set up the food for the reception buffet so I could refresh my makeup and get ready for the evening, while all my guests went to a friend's house and got drunk in the garden!

My wedding to OH is going to have a slightly larger budget, all in one location. This time, I'm having what I want - a handfasting ceremony, so OH and I will go to the registry office first with our parents to do the "Legal Bit", then meet our guests at our venue for the handfasting, which is the important bit for me. After the ceremony in the gardens (fingers crossed for nice weather!), when drinks and nibbles are made available, I'm going to ask several musical friends to play to keep people entertained while we go through the boring business of photographs in the grounds, followed by a picnic rather than a formal wedding banquet. Then the indoor rooms will be opened up for the reception and a buffet laid on later in the evening. It's still very much in the planning-and-saving stage but I'm hoping to have all my dates, venues and providers confirmed before Christmas, ready for late next spring/early summer.
    Original debts: £14,250
Still to pay: £250 /£950 - Lloyds TSB overdraft (although with interest and charges, I've already paid £1,675!)

    VSP#150 - £68.25
