Also, we're putting on the invites that instead of presents we would appreciate it if you could bring Olives/Mixed Nuts/Tuna and Pasta Salad/Some Fresh Bread and also a bottle of wine/2 bottles of beer/share the cost of a bottle of spirits with another guest.
Hopefully that wont offend anyone as it'll save a fortune and means that we don't end up with unwanted coffee makers :-)
  • Thank you everyone so far. :)

    Plans to date:

Church - approx £400 (hopefully getting 4.30 slot so can combine day/evening guests)
    Venue - £130 (includes bar/waiting staff) - 48hrs (unfortunately can't afford to do free drinks :( )
Car - fingers x'd dad borrowing his bosses
Flowers/Chair covers - Mum doing if i'm nice lol (flowers are home grown)
Wedding Dress (£40 NWT eb*y - i have to be strict with my diet now):D
    B/Maid Dress x 1 (£9.99 NWT eb*y)
Invitations - Handmade by Me :)
Buffet Food - hmmm TBA - However i am on cake making duty as my Cheesecakes and gateaus are scrummy even if i do say so myself
DJ - That'd be my trusty lappy and hours of pre-prep sorting a play list. (plugin into sounds system at venue)
Kids Entertainment - Hire of a bouncy castle (approx £50)
Venue Deco - eb*y here we come (i've got my heart set on choc theme so choc & cream balloons - £20
    Groom - suit hire £80

    Total budget so far £730/£1000

Hoping I can pull this off.

We're going to be quite organised with this and list all the dishes we need and then ask appropriate people to bring them. Auntie's are obviously better at trifle and the younger single lot can pick up a bottle on the way with a pot of hummus. There will be a part on the RSVP slip to give notice if it is too much trouble due to travelling etc!
As long as we have otice then we can reallocate the task :rotfl:

Hello, were getting married on monday and we are on a tighter budget than you!

    Registry office - £140.50
Flowers from ebay - £14.80 (mine and 4 button holes)
    Chinese restaurant - £241.50

    Dress and shoes £50.00
Suit for groom - present from his parents

    Rings - £50

Bags for children at chinese (colouring book etc) - £10.00

Boys shirts and shortd - £10.00 in the sale

We are getting married at 11.30am then walking to a local restaurant and having a big lunch, no evening though. We did consider getting married around tea time then just a big meal but we felt it would be too late for our boys too stay out and no one offered to take them home early!

Nearly forgot - balloons from card warehouse - £9.00
    Mum, wife and dinnerlady!

    Wow! Well done you.

Its amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it. We're proof that a wedding doesn't need to cost £21K.

I hope you enjoy your big day. :)

Hi desperate+determined. Congratulations first off. Just saw this tread and realised that I'm in the same boat as you. Looking at a wedding next year for £1500 and looking at an evening do to keep costs down. We found a Tythe Barn for £600 for hire for 3 days. This way we plan that the attention to detail of friends and usspeding time arranging everything will cover up the fact that we are spending barely anything and all the flower vases are actually old jam jars.
We are going for a 1930's theme but relaxed. The guests are being asked to dress how they are comfortable as that's how we want everyone to feel. The charity shop hunting starts now!
Anyway, don't want to hijack your thread but just wanted to let you know that I may keep an eye for ideas to "borrow" and I'll let you know any brainwaves that we have!

Wow, where did you find a Tythe Barn for £600? I'm looking for venues at the moment and they're all so expensive!

invites - using most of my craft stock may need a few other bits but shouldn't cost me more than £5 (eb*y) and of cause my time, but as i'm on mat leave currently no time like present to start them. :)

Church - we may have to rethink this :( my OH has previously been married and the church we were thinking off may not marry us. :( also he appears to have misplaced his decree absolute there goes our budget (on copy certificate) :( We could use registry office and save nearly £200 but this is 20miles from us and our venue

Hey ho, not letting this put me off. I will do this, i will do this
  • I think I'll be watching this post with intrest OH and I are planning on getting married in 2013 and are on a very tight buget but I think its do able as I'm not planning a a very traditional wedding. We have discussed what we want from our day and ultimately it os to be married ( so I suggested we just do it one lunch time) but OH would like at least his close family but he would really like to have his friend and some of his extended family there. So we have decided to have a civil ceremony (as he has been married before) with both our parents and siblings present and then go for a meal to celebrate with them.
We then hope to have a village fete style party for friends and instead of wedding gifts will be asking for items for our buffet "food stalls" and we also plan to have things like hook the duck, coconut stalls etc and a costume photo booth, so their is plenty to keep everyone entertained.
