can someone settle an argument about speed?

which is the faster laptop -
a pentium 4 2.4ghz
or
a core 2 duo t7200 2.0ghz
can anyone settle this argument as we know nothing about techie stuff!

    I dont have the figures, but any dual core processor is only advantageous for software than can utilise it, or for running multiple processes. If you dont need this then save your cash

    cool, thanks techies! my dad has the p4 and i have just ordered the core duo, i will mostly be using it for downloading music and the internet and photos so cool!!!!!!!

    A Core 2 Duo will be faster by quite some way when compared to a Pentium 4.

    It uses less power too, so you may get better battery life. Plus it runs much cooler.

    cool, thanks techies - i got a core 2 duo t7200 2.0ghz with 120gb and 2x512ram for £800 does that sound good? i have a celeron at the moment you can hear it whirring for ten minuites before it actually does anything!

  • I think perhaps you should have looked for more RAM, it would have made a fair difference but aside from that, it's a godly machine. As posted before, the CPU demannds a lot less power so it's a good system

    Yeah youll need a faster CPU with the net especially downloading music. :D
  • Point made, but it'll need much longer until an upgrade. When i had my pentium 4 i almost died every time i was encoding a DVD which wasn't regularly, but it's nice to have a computer that can do everything you need it for, and some things you might not necessarily take into consideration.
