What to see / do Texas

Hi all it looks as though my wife and I may be visiting relatives in Texas early next year, we will most likely spend a week in San Antonio then possibly spend a few days travelling.
Any recommendations for places to visit, I was considering driving to the coast, Galveston maybe?
Thanks

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy...

Depending on how "early" early is I wouldn't have though the coast would be a good option. Temperatures in the early part of the year are typically less than 20C.
I'd go to Austin and / or Houston. If the sun does shine then being in Houston means the beach is on your doorstep.0 -
I found Galveston a bit run down when I went there, it reminded me of Rhyl in north wales, but the space centre is worth a visit.
Just outside of Houston there's Kemah Boardwalk and my kids also loved the natural history and childrens' museums in Houston.
We also used to vist Corpus Christi and Padre island both south of San Antonio.0 -
Having been there in my youth I'd certainly recomend South Padre Island - although you may want to avoid spring break - it can get a bit rowdy! http://www.spadre.com/0
