i like napster actually, its very reliable. I had a subscription and it was really good
I HATE msn music downloads though, numerour times downloads have been empty or incomplete. they claim it as a faulty link on the site, fix it but yet it still does'nt work...its RUBBISH!!0 -
Hi - they all have their good and bad points. The main bad point of all is that very few offer Mp3s
i-tunes - has a great choice, and is easy to use remembering your details. However although it is easy to burn downloaded songs onto a CD, the downloaded files will only play on i-pods.
Cokemusic - not such a good choice. Downloads WMAs with various licence restrictions. You have to buy credits in advance which is a bit of a pain. Downloaded files will not play on i-pods, but will play on anything else.
Tesco - has very cheap albums ( see another thread) starting at 1.99. Pain in the neck is that you download a song at a time instead of an entire album is a oncer.0 -
MTV downloads are only 69p compared to Tesco's 79p!0

The IFPI tried to get the site shut down. The Moscow police looked at it and could not do anything as ******* were not breaking any russian laws. This site is perfectly legal. The music industry is spitting blood over this, but IP laws vary from country to country, there is no international standard IP law. Under russian laws this site is not commiting an offence. They would be if they were selling CDs or DVDs, but russian law doesn't cover digital media such as MP3s.

Boardguide comment:- above link removed for checking, please keep any further discussion legal.
Quote from the site mentioned above:-
Is it legal to download music from site **********
"All the materials in the ******* projects are available for distribution through Internet according to license ******* of the Russian Multimedia and Internet Society. Under the license terms, MediaServices pays license fees for all the materials subject to the Law of the Russian Federation "On Copyright and Related Rights". All the materials are available solely for personal use and must not be used for further distribution, resale or broadcasting.
Users are responsible for any usage and distribution of all materials received from ********. This responsibility depends on the local legislation of each user's country of residence. ******'s Administration does not keep up with the laws of different countries and is not responsible the actions of non-Russian users."

I am wondering how many people have stopped downloading the old way (illegal ).
The recent prosecutions have made many stop.
The torrent sources seem to be drying up as well with suapnova taking a dive after prosecution.
The music industry seems to be winnng until an untraceable way of downloading is invented !!!'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.0 -
I would currently recommend Tesco downloads as they have a higher bitrate of 192kbps giving a near CD quality compared to sites such as mycokemusic which are 128kpbs, worth the extra 10p...0

I remember reading a report recently about internet traffic. Two thirds of all the traffic on the internet was taken up by P2P, over half of this was bittorrent.

try http://www.mp3tunes.com 88 cents a song run by Michael Robertson, who founded mp3.com before it was sold off and turned into the rubbish tip it is today.
emusic.com is really good these days as well, previous management nearly killed it but its back and holding it own.0
