Help! USB Scanner and Webcam not working - troubleshooting help needed!!

Help needed!!
Our desktop computer has 2 USB slots, one of which is connected to a USB hub for our other devices.
Connected to the hub are the printer, cable for digital camera, scanner and webcam.
However, three days ago the scanner stopped responding and after reinstalling the software I am still unable to use it - I've made no changes to affect the operation of the scanner so no idea why it's suddenly gone on strike. I've checked the cables and power input - all fine. The scanner does power on if I remove and reinsert the power cable.
Here are some screenshots and descriptions of what I did...
1) Select Imaging Device...

2) Error Message pops up...

3) So, go back to 1) and click properties to carry out diagnostic test, which completes successfully...

I've reinstalled the scanner drivers to no avail, and also uninstalled it via device manager and then installed again. The scanner is made by Tiny but I had to obtain a different driver as they went bankrupt before they released a scanner driver for XP :wall:
I've done all I can do - if anyone has other troubleshooting ideas I'd be glad to hear them  :j
Cheers again,
Crabster

Have you tried getting the hub out of the way and then connecting the scanner directly to the PC, is it a powered hub or non-powered meaning the power is taken off the mo-bo, also in device manager did you uninstall the USB root hibs with all of your peripherals unplugged then restart PC then plug one in at a time? maybe you should consider getting some new USB slots by the way of buying a cheap USB PCI card and install that thus doing away with the hub and also whilst fitting it get rid of any dust inside the PC as spring is on its way.

Thanks for the reply - appreciate it
I connected the scanner directly via USB to my laptop - after installing the drivers it successfully scanned to my laptop, so the problem lies somewhere with the computer... :wall:
I connected it directly to the computer - no luck. The only thing that could be the reason this is happening is my phone call to Microsoft where we had to delete a registry folder to stop windows activating itself and locking down the PC. Can't think what to do though...

Look in device manager and see if their are any exclamation marks displayed.0

There was an exclamation mark by the infra-red device but I've rectified that - the scanner shows up fine and passes the diagnostic test as per screenshot above - I've completely uninstalled it and reinstalled it (after restarting) but it still pops the error box. I'll mention it to Microsoft as this only happened after they went fiddling with my registry :rolleyes:0
