Boiler question

I turned the water temerature on my boiler to 35 degrees, it was still nice and hot. The boiler fires up from time to time to heat a small supply of water in the tank, so it comes out of the tap hot straight away. If I turn the water temperature down to zero, the boiler won't fire up in this way, but when I turn the tap on, the water temp will be 50 degrees (presumably after a short wait for the boiler to fire up and heat it). Im at work all day, asleep at night obviously, out and about at weekends, is it better to make the boiler stop firing up from time to time and have it just firing when you actually need it?
