    Last time I transferred money from the US (earlier this year) it took 3 or 4 working days to appear in my UK bank account.

    Not really, especially as most of our banks are not part of larger banks who also operate overseas. Moving money from Santander UK (e.g.) or HSBC, Barclays to one of their own accounts overseas costs them peanuts, then they can just use the local BACS equivalent.

    Charging £25, or even £10 for this is way over their costs.

    Banks always seem to get masses amount of money they don't deserve. They'd get away with murder.
