Renting in Chelmsford or Bishops Stortford

Do any of you know if there's such a thing as a list of private landlords in the above areas? Or local newspapers who advertise privately rented property?
My son and his family are relocating from Scotland for a period of 3 years and are looking to rent a 4 bed, unfurnished house. They will be moving towards the end of September/early October.
They search all the letting agents sites daily (well, all the ones that show up on google that is!) but are finding it difficult to locate a suitable property.
My son will be working in Canary Wharf so proximity to rail links are important. They also need to be near a good school and under 5 nursery.
If anyone can offer any advice on any of the above it would be very much appreciated.
