Hi
A friend has rung me today to ask for some advice re her current situation, I couldn't help her but I told her I would post here.
She currently lives with her partner and twin sons, their relationship has come to an end and she wishes to move back here closer to her family. They live in a private rental property but it is not a joint tenancy, it is in the sole name of her partner.
She has contacted the Housing Department here who said that the only way they could help if her partner were to give her notice to leave the property they currently share. Clearly her partner does not want to throw them on the street but they can no longer go on living like they are.
My query is, if her partner were to give her say 8 weeks notice, is it likely that the Housing Department will help her out within that time or will they wait until 7 weeks 6 days are up before they look at her case, ie is he better giving her less notice. She wants to move as soon as possible but doesn't know what to do for the best.
Thanks

depending on the housing stock in the area she may be given B&B or hostel accommodation if she is presenting as homeless as there are not enough properties to go round. Has she looked at private rentals?0

Yes she is looking at private rentals too but many of them are outside of the price range of LHA; she also understands that she may be allocated temporary accommodation initially but I imagine that would remain the case whether he gave her two weeks or ten weeks notice.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
