I currently pay £75 by direct debit to EDF for electricity and £60 direct debit to British Gas for gas.
It’s about time I stopped being loyal and started to look around.

I read on the main site it’s a good idea to fix prices so I used energyhelpline.com to compare prices..
According to them if I get dual fuel from nPower I can save £377 a year.

Alternatively , I can take smaller savings and fix my prices for longer.
EDF seem to be good for this
2 examples
EDF fixed rate until 31/3/2014 save £145
EDF fixed rate until 30/9/2012 save £297

I know none of us have a crystal ball and I know ultimately that the final choice is mine but what are your thoughts.

Thanks for reading.

My thoughts are you should compare on annual consumption in kWhrs, not monthly spend.

I avoided a fix and went for the biggest savings now (£150p.a.) in variable tariff without an exit penalty.

    see my post here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/45772706#Comment_45772706

(The £50 discount has now expired).
If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.

Edited as I've now worked things out in KWhrs and revised results are..........

Best saving without capping is £378 with e-on
Sounds tempting but they might hike up their prices soon

    Best fixed/capped prices
EDF £325 saving pa until 30/9/2012
EDF £167 saving PA until 31/3/2014

The maths is doing my head in. The difference in those dates is 18months.
I realise that this is all a gamble but does anyone know how much prices would have to rise in that time to make the 31/3/2014 offer a better option?

Just wondering whether to go for.....EDF £325 saving pa until 30/9/2012..... for no other reason then it's an inbetween figure?
