Why would the OP have to live in a factory to save £200 PA.?
I dont understand this comment,I also used several comparison sites, based on my annual gas and electric consumption and got more or less the same answer in that EDF 2014 would save me £150 a year based on BG;s standard tarrif,or £229 a year based on BG's price promise 2013...Does this mean these savings are false then?im only switching to save, dont realy like the hassle and worry that the switch over wont go smoothly, therefore if im doing it all for nothing then id rather stick.

No one can answer either of you without knowing your annual consumption. On an average dual fuel bill of £1200, £200 would be a huge saving.
A fix is not designed to be necessarily cheaper -its just buying insurance against future rises. Only you can decide if the premium is worth it.

Using your figs for my region (London), I get a saving of £160 for EDF Fixed 2014 over BG Standard, so you're in the ballpark. Possibly for your region the savings are greater.
Absolutely anything is cheaper than Standard tariff.
