Non-payment of goods

Please Help! :(

We rent out our private caravan in cornwall. Before anyone goes on there holiday we send out all info including charges for additional services i.e. linen

We are now having a dispute with a family who asked for linen when they arrived directly from the site it is situated at. They had never informed us they needed this prior to the holiday.

They are now trying to refute the invoice we have sent them requesting they pay for the service they had. We even reduced the amount originally to the charge which we have incurred but they still are trying to get out of paying!

Can anyone offer us any advice, as we are not a business we feel that we have no power other than polite requests!

If this is the wrong board then please re-direct me! we are new to all of this!!

Hi, you have come to the wrong board but I'm not sure where you should be, maybe the small business board.

This will probably get moved to the right place when the board guide comes on.
I think that if you're charging for the use of your caravan you are a business in the eyes of the law & HMRC.
Hopefully someone can help you either over there, or wll know where you should post.

You are a business. You are also required to have registered as self employed with HMRC and be filling out annual tax returns. So at the moment, you're a tax dodger it would appear.

Send them a reminder invoice then a final demand and then take them to county court for non-payment.

Why are they a business ??
I rent out a flat but am not a business. I just add it to my tax return each year. I am employed.
    Just wondering..

You are a business as well (as a sole trader) but the important bit is that you are declaring the income.

It is possible to be both emplyed and paying tax under PAYE and self employed.

Yes you are. You take money in return for a service or goods.

However you recognise you need to declare your rental income.
