Still, it's not necessarily a wind up. Some people have no clue about their rights, what they can and cannot do. I work with a guy who thinks he can do ABC & he's convinced he can legally do these things, yet i know for a fact he can't ... but you can't educate people who don't want to be educated.0 -

What is your plan of action for work tomorrow? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
No internet policy; no chance.
A warning that their card has been marked, then monitor.
I have legitimate reasons to access the web at work - my role as union chair and researching training courses. However, I am still aware that I shouldn't take the p*ss when it comes to accessing websites. I normally make personal use of websites before I officially start work, at lunchtime and after I finish.¿Alguien ha visto a mi nave espacial?

If you are in a position where you are able to sack some one, yet have to ask here perhaps it is you who should be sacked for gross incompetence as a boss .
Sort your issues out with this person and stop trying to find excuses to sack someone you just do not like .
You sound like a rubbish boss with really bad communication skills .What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
AmI the only one who doesn't think that staff should need to be told not to use the internet for personal use? In my opinion unless told otherwise the only internet use that is acceptable is work related.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

?Anyway, whats the problem with using the net? its no different from having a gossip in the tea room, you cant tell me that everyone goes to work 9-5 and does 100% work, 100% of the time, im not sure thats even healthy from a social sense
I'll say it again work is a work place.. not a social club...What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

My last workplace we did have someone who excessively chatted, wedding and social life planned, spent time on personal phone calls, emails etc.. was sick of having to cover for her messups cos she wasnt doing the job or had any inclination/work ethic..if you dont have work to do either they employ too many ppl or perhaps take the initiative and say is there anything I can do??/help out in other depts/find something.(tidying cupboards, updating databases, organising filesWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

In this day & age, when everything is based on what is written down on paper as cans and can't, do's and don'ts, i'm afraid everyone has to be told everything. You can't assume someone should know or should do something just because it's what you yourself would do, or would not do.
While i actually agree with you, unless it's written down, then the employee isn't actually breaking any rules.Googlewhacker wrote: »I agree, its like you have to be told not to steal
Difference being, stealing is illegal. Surfing the net for personal use isn't.0 -

Surfing the net for personal use in your own time isn't illegal but it certainly should be in work time. I'm probably very naive that people need it to be written down to know that it's wrong.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
