This isn't a problem if you transfer money in by direct debit, which is the best method in any case.
The 8 zeros issue is an issue with the other banks, not A&L's systems. They may be able to set up a mandate to the A&L account on the phone, even if their online systems won't allow it, if their online banking systems use the concept of pre-defined payment mandates.0 -
I'd agree, normally, but sometimes it suits to push it in rather than passing through the BACS system to get it in the linked account ready for collection by DD.MarkyMarkD wrote:This isn't a problem if you transfer money in by direct debit, which is the best method in any case.
Agreed, hence my comment that Nationwide wasn't a problem. The 8 zeros issue is an issue with the other banks, not A&L's systems.
I've never used telephone banking to send payments. I prefer to be/think I am 'in control' with internet banking instead. They may be able to set up a mandate to the A&L account on the phone, even if their online systems won't allow it, if their online banking systems use the concept of pre-defined payment mandates.0 -
I agree, too, but you can set up a mandate (by phone) and use it (by internet) with some banks, can't you?YorkshireBoy wrote:I prefer to be/think I am 'in control' with internet banking instead.0 -
Thanks for that MarkyMarkD - I see what you mean now. It looks like my desire to be 'in control' has left me somewhat 'out of control', as I'd never thought of that!MarkyMarkD wrote:I agree, too, but you can set up a mandate (by phone) and use it (by internet) with some banks, can't you?
On closer inspection of my YB internet banking details, I see that the marshalling account number for my LTSB credit card has 8 zero's. This arrangement was set up before YB re-vamped their internet banking interface last year, and it was migrated across. I'm already using something I thought wasn't possible!
So, it looks like you're correct, and that I could indeed set up the, for example, A&L OS2 mandate by telephone and have it added to my 'payee list' for future payments - pity I'll be closing the account when the rate drops in a couple of months though.
Thanks again.0
